Make a simple logo
A first logo only has to be readable and yours to edit. Canva’s free plan can generate a simple one. You fix the spelling, drop anything that asks you to pay, and judge it at a small size.

Steps
Create a free Canva account
Go to canva.com and sign up with an email or Google. Stay on the free plan. If a screen asks for a card, close it. You do not need Canva Pro for a basic logo.
Open the logo generator
Go to Canva’s AI logo generator. You can also search “logo” from the Canva home page. The menus move, so look for a box that asks you to describe a logo.
Know the free limit before you generate ten versions
Canva’s own pages describe the free plan as a shared monthly AI allowance: up to 200 uses of standard AI tools, or up to 20 uses of premium AI tools. The logo generator page says free accounts can try logo prompts up to 20 times a month. The free allowance resets at 12:00 a.m. UTC on the first of the month. If you see a message that you have used your AI allowance, stop. Edit a free logo template by hand instead of entering a card.
Describe a simple mark, and spell the name
Type a plain description. Put the name in quotes so it is obvious.
Prompt to paste
A simple flat logo for "North Street Bread". A small neighborhood bakery. Two colors: dark green and cream. The name must be spelled exactly as written. No tiny details. It should still be readable as a phone icon.
Pick one and retype the words
Generate a few, not twenty. Open the clearest one in the editor. Click every word and type the name again yourself. AI logos often misspell, add an extra letter, or use a font that makes “n” and “r” blur together.
Remove anything Canva marks as paid
Before you download, Canva shows if a piece of the design is a premium element. Delete that piece or replace it with a free one. A crown icon or a paywall at download means something in the file is not on the free plan. Do not pay just to finish a first try.
Download a PNG and look at it small
Download a PNG. Shrink it to the size of an app icon and of a Facebook profile. If you cannot read the name, go back and simplify: fewer shapes, thicker letters, two colors only.
Tips
Canva’s full chat editor (Canva AI 2.0) is on paid plans. Free accounts still get some AI tools, including image and logo generation, inside the monthly allowance. Magic Write, for text, is separate and also limited.
Describe the business, not a famous brand. “Like Nike” asks for someone else’s logo.
This guide cannot give you a trademark. Search the name, and look hard at the picture, before you print signs. AI images can resemble a logo that already exists. Canva’s license is the one that applies to the file.
If the generator is unavailable, search Canva for “logo” templates, pick a free one, and change the text yourself. That path does not spend an image credit.
Common questions
Will the download have a watermark?
A design made of free elements should download without asking you to pay. If Canva blocks the download, a premium element is still in the file. Remove it. Do not assume a watermark is required.
Can I use the logo on a real shop?
You can try it, after you read Canva’s current license and after you check that the name and the picture are not already someone else’s. A first AI logo is a draft, not a brand system.
The name is wrong every time.
Generate the shapes, then ignore the letters the AI drew. Cover them with a text box and type the name in a plain font such as Arial or a simple serif. That is more reliable than another prompt.
Do I need Photoshop or a paid image model?
No. The free Canva plan is the whole path in this guide.
