A caption only has to say what happened, in a voice you would claim. Free ChatGPT can offer three short versions. You pick one, you delete anything untrue, and you post it yourself.

## What you need

- A free ChatGPT account
- What actually happened, in a sentence or two
- The app you are posting on, and whether a photo is going with the words

## Steps

### 1. Decide the facts you are willing to publish

A caption is public. Leave out a child’s full name, your address, a ticket number, or a complaint about a person you can be seen standing next to. If you would not want a stranger to read it, do not paste it into the chat either.

### 2. Open ChatGPT

Go to [ChatGPT](https://chatgpt.com) and start a new chat. The free plan is enough. You are not uploading anything unless you choose to.

### 3. Ask for three short options

Fill in the brackets. Delete the hashtag line if you do not want them.

Prompt:

```
Write 3 captions I can post.
Where I will post: [Instagram]
What really happened: [We sold out of morning buns by 10 on Saturday.]
Who can be named: [the bakery name only, not staff]
Tone: warm, not salesy
Length: under 2 short sentences
Do not invent a sale, a feeling, or a detail I did not give you.
Then give me 3 hashtags only if they fit. It is fine to give me none.
```

### 4. Pick the one you would actually say

Read them next to the photo. If a caption jokes about something that was not funny, or thanks a person who was not there, throw it out. Ask for a rewrite of one caption rather than three new personalities.

### 5. Post it from the app yourself

Copy the words into Instagram, Facebook, or the neighborhood group. Check the photo and the audience (public, friends, or a group) before you publish. The chat does not post for you.

## Tips

- Say the audience. A neighborhood group and a brand account should not get the same joke.
- If you are announcing a price or a time, type those yourself at the end so a rewrite cannot change them.
- Skip hashtags when you are writing to people who already follow you. They rarely help a personal post.
- Claude can do this too. The rule about not inventing a sale is the part to keep.

## FAQ

### Can it look at my photo?

On some free plans you can attach an image. You do not need to. A sentence about the photo is enough, and it avoids uploading a picture of other people.

### The captions sound like an advertisement.

Reply: “These sound like ads. Write them the way a person texts a friend. No ‘don’t miss out.’”

### I need this in another language.

Add the language to the prompt, then use the translation guide’s back-translation check if you do not read that language well.

### Is a caption covered by the social network’s rules?

Yes. The chat does not know if your group forbids sales posts or if the photo needs consent. You do.
