Resume bullets fail when they claim a result you cannot explain. Free Claude can shape a bullet from work you actually did, and it should leave a blank instead of inventing a number.

## What you need

- A free Claude account
- The job posting, or a sentence about the job you want
- One real accomplishment, with any true number you are willing to say out loud in an interview

## Steps

### 1. Collect one true story, not your whole career

Pick a single piece of work. Who it was for, what you did, and what changed if you know. If you do not have a number, do not borrow one. “I trained the two new cashiers” is enough to start. “I increased sales 40%” is a lie if you made it up, and interviewers ask.

### 2. Open Claude

Go to [claude.ai](https://claude.ai) and start a new chat on the free plan. Do not paste your full Social Security number, your home address, or a confidential client list.

### 3. Ask for three bullets and visible blanks

Paste the posting’s responsibilities only if you are comfortable sharing them. A few lines of the posting are more useful than the whole corporate page.

Prompt:

```
Write 3 resume bullets for the job I describe.
Target job: [front desk at a clinic]
My real work: [I answered phones at a busy dental office for 2 years, scheduled patients, and calmed people who were upset about wait times.]
A number I can defend: [about 40 calls on a typical morning]
Words from the job posting I should echo, if they fit: [scheduling, patient communication]
Rules:
- Use only facts I gave you.
- If a stronger bullet needs a number I did not give, write [add a real number] instead of inventing one.
- Start each bullet with a verb.
- Do not claim a tool, a degree, or a result I did not mention.
```

### 4. Pick one bullet and say it out loud

If you stumble, the bullet is too grand. Ask Claude to shorten that one. Keep a bullet only if you could tell the story behind it for two minutes.

### 5. Put it in your resume in your own file

Paste the bullet into your document. Leave the others in the chat or delete them. A resume full of unused AI bullets is how people end up describing jobs they did not do.

## Tips

- One honest bullet is stronger than five inflated ones. You can repeat this guide for each job on the resume.
- Match the posting’s words only when they are true. “Stakeholder management” is a bad rewrite of “I called parents.”
- The free Claude plan is enough. If you hit the usage limit, wait for the reset rather than paying to finish one bullet.
- ChatGPT can follow the same prompt. The blank for a missing number is the part you should not delete.

## FAQ

### Can it write my whole resume?

It can, and that is how people submit a resume they cannot explain. Do one role at a time, from facts you supply.

### I do not have numbers.

Leave them out. “Scheduled patients and answered a busy phone” is allowed to stand. A made-up percentage is worse than no percentage.

### Will an employer know I used AI?

They may suspect a generic bullet. They will know for certain if you cannot talk about it. Specific, true details sound like you. Vague praise does not.

### Should I upload my current resume file?

You can paste the one section you are rewriting. Uploading the whole file is unnecessary and may include your address and phone number.
